Today is a swapping or bartering economy. You can swap anything from homes to clothes. But should you swap for eyecare services? In essence, bartering is simply buying or paying for goods or services using something other than money (coins or government printed paper dollars). Recent estimates indicate that at least 60 percent of companies on the NYSE  use the principles of bartering as a standard business practice.

Advantage: You don’t need credit cards or cash to barter. In a bad economy or when business is slow, cash in anyone’s pocket is a precious commodity, and bartering is even more popular. Bartering affords both the individual and the established business a way to hold onto cash while continuing to get needed goods and services.  It’s also an ideal way for businesses to obtain goods and services from other businesses.
