Optical Ownership: DeRigo x Boots x Walgreens

DeRigo is a fairly new player in the US optical industry, but not in Europe. Launched in 1978 they have quickly grown, especially with the purchase of Lozza Italy and REM eyewear in 2016. They officially entered the USA and Canada market in 2010 via Marr International.

Portugal: MAIS OPTICA- Founded in 1998, Mais Optica, has 20 Locations.

Spain: General Optica- Purchased in 2000, they now have 200 direct stores and over 30 franchise stores,. General Optica was founded in 1955 in Barcelona

Turkey: Opmar Optik- (20 locations) founded in 2001 and was purchased in 2009 They have 75 locations with a Made in Italy Focus.

UK: Boots Opticians- First they started with Dollond & Aitchison, the oldest optical chain in the world (founded in 1750). They then merged with Boots Opticians in 2009. Boots Opticians currently has 630 locations. Boots Opticians is controlled by Walgreens Alliance Boots, which holds a 58% share, while De Rigo holds a 42% share.
