IDOC Fall Conference 2017

There are a number of terrific member groups in the eyecare industry where members can save money and learn from consultants and peers alike. IDOC is one of the larger optometric alliance groups with over 2,000 member locations and over 3,000 doctor members. IDOC held their Fall 2017 Conference in Denver October 25-28 this year, and since the Grand Hyatt Hotel is 15 minutes from my office I was invited to sit in and observe a few classes and meet with the some of the members.

Over 200 OD’s made their way to the Mile High City and is often the case for optical conferences held here in the fall and winter, brought a touch of snow with them for the first day of the conference. This year’s conference had a wide range of classes designed to help run a practice and keep up with the latest in optical technology as well.

I was most impressed with the roundtable discussion group I was invited to sit in on where doctors shared many “Pearls” of wisdom they instituted in their particular practices over the past year and wanted to share with their IDOC peers. Those “Pearls” ranged from how they hire new staff to how they got patients to use social media to benefit their practices.

As business owners, we have to keep in mind that we don’t know everything and at the same time, don’t live in a vacuum. Many of the same problems my business and your business faces are the same problems hundreds, if not thousands of other businesses face. How smart is it for each of us to have find the solution for those problems alone, when our peers may have already found the answer and are ready to share their solutions? How great is it to sit in a seminar by a knowledgeable consultant to learn something new, whether or not you get a CE credit? Groups such as IDOC and many others provide a wealth of resources and information for the those wanting to continually improve. You can find out more about IDOC here.

What groups do you belong to and recommend?
