Reuse Eyeglasses: 21 Upcycled Eyeglass Necklaces

We all know how many eyeglasses are wasted and thrown away. In fact it is estimated that over 4 Million pairs of glasses are thrown away every year while more than 1 billion people globally cannot afford a pair of glasses. The best way to reuse eyeglasses is to donate them to Lions Club, Vosh or other charitable organizations.

Maybe you and or you patients love your glasses so much, or they are so wrecked, don’t throw them away.  They can be reused in many ways and today in honoring Earth Day (April 22) we are featuring  20 up-cycled eyeglass necklaces. For more ideas on reusing eyeglasses and Lenses check out our Pinterest Board Reuse Eyeglasses  or our previous Earth Month posts on  eyeglass lenses, contact lens and eyeglass cases and even Lens Cleaner Bottles.

  1. I do like the idea of recycling eye wear as their are many very cool frames floating around. However, aside from the example above of the retro frames acting as a tie, Iwouldn’t wear these because they are too big for me. Kudos to the creators, though, they are innovative. I’d like to suggest creating a hair thingy (technical term), that you put over a bun, twist, etc and secure with a stick. Second career for an interesting frame and temple piece. I can also imagine chunky frames with the glass etched as a belt buckle and half frames looped together to create “hanging bead” chains. I will keep my eyes open for more of these creations. Thank you for the reminder about donating to the Lions and for your fun post.
