Ten Sunglass Cookies For National Cookie Day

National Cookie Day is December 4 and today we are celebrating with with special sunglass cookies. In America we call them cookies, in the UK and Australia they are called biscuits, in Spain Galletas, in Germany, Keks or Platzchen.

The name cookie comes from the Dutch word Koekje, meaning little cake. In fact, they say that is how cookies were created, as tests for cakes, as Bakers did not want to waste cake batter, so they put testers in the oven, which developed into cookies.

The most popular cookie made at home are chocolate chip cookies. Invented in 1930 at the Toll House Inn in Massachusetts by a women Ruth Graves Wakefield who chopped a chocolate bar into bits and added it to a traditional butter drop cookie recipe. Today the chocolate chip cookie is Massachusetts official state cookie. Wakefield sold her recipe to Nestle in 1939.
