The Vision Council Promotes UV Protection Ahead of National Sunglasses Day

The Vision Council logoAlexandria, VA (June 20, 2014) –  All next week, The Vision Council will be working with local and national consumer media outlets to bring attention to the importance of UV eye protection and promote our latest report, Picture This: A Lifetime of UV Eye Protection. On Friday, June 27, we encourage organizations and individuals from across the optical industry to join in the celebration of National Sunglasses Day by not only wearing your favorite UV protective eyewear, but also encouraging others to do the same.

Using the hashtags #SunglassSelfie and #NationalSunglassesDay, The Vision Council is encouraging organizations to involve their followers by posting photos and statuses on Facebook and Twitter. Organizations can inform their followers of the benefits of UV protective eyewear by sharing The Vision Council’s National Sunglasses Day infographic , and ask them to take the pledge to wear sunglasses on Friday in celebration.

The Vision Council’s UV report, Picture This: A Lifetime of UV Eye Protection, provides a detailed, easy-to-understand look at the damage sun exposure can inflict on the eyes at every age—from childhood into the senior years, information about eye protection habits, how to better protect the eyes, and which sunglasses are right for individuals.

In the 4 weeks since the report’s release, The Vision Council has garnered over 120 million impressions. The report was initially shared with 45 national and 120 regional consumer and health media outlets, generating more than 100 million impressions in the first week alone, and bringing coverage of The Vision Council’s UV activities to over 430 million impressions in 2014.
