I just read this article about Pillow Menus in hotel. .A pillow menu is a list of available pillows provided by a hotel to guests, usually free of charge. It allows guests to make an alternative pillow choice. Some common pillow alternatives are memory foam, buckwheat hull, and hypoallergenic. (Wikipedia)

Before you think what do hotels and eyecare have to do with each other… The have a lot in common,  getting and keeping long term customers goes way beyond just optical. Hotels have sites such a AirBNB and Homeaway that are taking away their business, just like optical has Warby Parker and Zenni Optical.

In the old days, hotel amenities such as ice machines were the norm. Today, hotels are offering happy hours, free wifi, heavenly mattresses and now Pillow Menus.

Good pillows like mattresses are crucial to a good nights sleep. Good nights sleep means happy travelers, happy travelers mean returns and referrals.

Same concept goes for eyecare professionals:  good eyewear/exam/contacts are crucial to good vision/health. Good Vision/health means happy wearers, happy wearers mean returns and referrals.

My question to eyecare professionals, do you have a pillow menu? What amenities do you provide? Do you up the ante every several years to keep up with trends? Have you been doing the same thing for years?

Something to think about.
