Is 1-800-Contacts Opening Their First Brick And Mortar Stores?

Is 1-800-Contacts going the road of Warby Parker? A new store concept ‘powered by 1-800-Contacts’ just opened their first Eyewear store called Lumen Optical in Kildeer, Illinois. We don’t think this is a Warby Parker, Want-to-Be, just the latest retail venture (i.e. branding) by Luxottica who bought 1-800-Contacts in 2014.

Interesting enough, while Powered By 1-800-Contacts a.k.a Luxottica, the eyewear brands being advertised are not just Luxottica.

The store was designed by Bergmeyer Associates

What do you think about this?

  1. Luxottica does not own 1-800 Contacts. Please review this statement.

  2. http://blog.marketingbrother.com/2014/02/luxottica-acquires-1-800-contacts-and-glasses-com/ Luxottica, world’s largest glasses and sunglasses manufacturer and eyewear conglomerate has announced in January of 2014 that agreement was reached to acquire 1-800 Contacts and Glasses.com – America’s largest eyewear websites.

1-800 Contacts.com and Glasses.com was bought out by WellPoint, of the nations’ largest insurance company back in 2012. The acquisition was a historical event in eyeglasses industry because it was a first similar merge in insurance world. At that time is simply meant that eyeglasses and contact lenses purchased online will be covered under insurance by WellPoint. The trend quickly propelled to other insurance companies that started covering claims for online glasses purchases. Another rather shock was the amount of the acquisition, over $900 million!
